Assistants | Jamie Wyllie has a diverse practice in many areas of law, including employment, labour relations, human rights, corporate, commercial, technology, intellectual property, charities, and wills and estates. He regularly appears before administrative tribunals, such as labour boards and human rights commissions, and arbitrators in employment and labour relations matters. Jamie is often involved in international corporate transactions on behalf of clients in the technology and communications sectors, including mergers and acquisitions. He also assists entrepreneurs in implementing tax-planned corporate and trust structures for business ownership.
Jamie does much more than represent his clients on a particular issue. His clients appreciate his ability to understand matters in the broader context of their overall needs and desires. This enables Jamie to provide proactive advice, personalizing his client representation. As one of his clients comments, “Jamie speaks using phrases such as ‘our position’ and ‘we propose’ — not ‘my client’s position’ or ‘my client’s proposal’ — he really makes it clear whose side he is on!”
In addition to maintaining a busy law practice, Jamie is very involved in charitable efforts. He created the Canadian Improv Games, an improvisational theatre competition which, for more than 30 years, has taught the skills of team work and creativity to tens of thousands of high school students across Canada. He was also a founding member of the Canadian National Christian Foundation. Having spent 20 years teaching at the graduate level in business and public administration, Jamie is particularly interested in leadership development and sits on the boards of several charitable organizations involved in that endeavour on local and national levels.
Jamie attended Carleton University, where he obtained both a Bachelor of Commerce and a Masters degree in public administration. He also holds both a Masters and a Doctorate in theology. Jamie has been a member of the Ontario Bar since 1986. He is married to Sandra and has three children, Bethany, Benjamin and Joel. Jamie spends much time passing on his love of sports to his children, especially for hockey, tennis and golf.
