Founded in 2006 by the women business lawyers at BrazeauSeller.LLP, Sisters in Law brings business and professional women together in networking, educational and charitable activities.

Sisters in Law is an opportunity for career minded women to connect, learn new ideas, develop contacts, and receive additional guidance and support from business women in all walks of life. The events also encourage members and attendees to be philanthropic by including donations to local charities.

Volunteering at The Snowsuit Fund
December 6, 2012
The members of Sisters in Law spent a morning volunteering at The Snowsuit Fund on December 6th.  We spent the morning distributing snowsuits, organizing clothing donations and learning more about how this charity operates.  The Snowsuit Fund distributes approximately 15,000 new snowsuits each winter to families in need.  Check out the photo by clicking on the link above!

Spa Night in support of The Snowsuit Fund

Sisters in Law were very excited to host a Spa Night at Rinaldo Hair Designers and Spa on Monday, November 26th.  The event was in support of The Snowsuit Fund.  All attendees received a mini manicure & pedicure and were asked to bring a donation for The Snowsuit Fund in lieu of payment for the services.  The evening was complete with delicious canapés from Grenfell Catering Delights, wonderful company in the owners and estheticians from Rinaldo’s, and great networking with professional women.  We are very thankful to all that attended the event and generously donated to this charity! 

 

Breast Cancer Action Annual Gala
November 16, 2012

Breast Cancer Action is a local, community-based, organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for breast cancer patients, survivors and their families through practical help, emotional support and education. The annual Breast Cancer Action gala was held on Friday, November 16, 2012 at Sala San Marco on Preston Street featuring "Las Vegas" style entertainment. Sisters in Law was excited to be a part of this event as a corporate sponsor.

Bust A Move for Breast Health
April 21, 2012

The Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation brought the immensely popular Bust A Move for Breast Health to Ottawa on April 21, 2012 for the first annual event in support of cancer initiatives in the Ottawa Region. Sisters in Law, along with other members of BrazeauSeller.LLP participated in this day long fitness extravaganza and raised more than $10,000!

Jewish Federation of Ottawa - CHOICES
October 25, 2011
Sisters in Law were the proud event sponsors for the premiere women's event of the Jewish Federation of Ottawa Women's Campaign - CHOICES.  The purpose of CHOICES is to support the annual fundraising campaign for the Jewish Federation of Ottawa.  The event was held at Agudath Israel on Tuesday, October 25, 2011. 

Wine & Cheese Event
March 3, 2011

The members of Sisters in Law hosted a Wine & Cheese event on Thursday, March 3rd, 2011 to raise money and collect business suits for Dress for Success Ottawa, an organization that has recently opened its doors in Ottawa.  Dress for Success assists disadvantaged women with re-entering the workforce by providing professional attire and career development programs.  Dress for Success has a boutique in Westboro, where they “suit” women that have been referred to them by various agencies in Ottawa. 

 The event took place at Play Food & Wine in the Byward Market and raised enough money to pay one month’s rent for Dress for Success Ottawa!  Thanks to the women who attended the event and were so very generous with both financial and clothing donations. 

Breakfast Seminar

The members of Sisters in Law hosted their first breakfast seminar entitled “In Case of Emergency, Break Glass: Managing Crises & Disasters in Your Business”. The seminar was held at our offices and the group of business women were provided with information concerning the corporate, litigation, and insurance issues that every business owner should be aware of before disaster strikes. In addition, our lawyers shared their tips and strategies regarding the management of any current crises.

The members of Sisters in Law hosted an intimate evening of learning, exploring and connecting with some of Ottawa's top professional women.  The event took place at Ottawa's distinct venue, urbanelement.  The night was filled with food and wine, complete with a cooking demonstration and instruction by a renowned Ottawa chef.

For the second year in a row, the members of Sisters in Law volunteered their time at the Salvation Army's Toy Mountain to assist in sorting and distributing toys to Ottawa's less fortunate children.

The members of Sisters-in-Law volunteered their time during the holiday season to help the Salvation Army distribute toys to Ottawa's less fortunate children. The Salvation Army estimated that 11,000 children received gifts in the Ottawa region.

Cherry Pie Event
Feb. 27, 2007

The women business lawyers of BrazeauSeller.LLP partnered with Cherry Pie, a women's networking group known for its entertaining and empowering events, to provide female entrepreneurs and business owners with a list of Top Ten Business Tips. The spectacular event was held at Social Restaurant & Lounge.

1. Choose the best business structure.
2. Protect your assets.
3. Need cash? Consider debt or equity financing.
4. Know what’s in your lease agreement.
5. Plan for the unexpected.
6. Avoiding overdue accounts is even better than collecting them.
7. You DO need a shareholder agreement.
8. Protect your brand.
9. Protect your employees and treat them fairly.
10. Understand the litigation process before you begin your action.

Friends & Trends

Sisters in Law teamed up with Holt Renfrew to host an evening of fun and fashion at Holt Renfrew’s Ottawa store. Guests enjoyed delicious appetizers and wine from Culinary Conspiracy, and were treated to a fashion show displaying this season’s top fashion trends. 

Sisters in Law and its guests donated over 400 pieces of gently used business attire to the Rainbow Skills Development Centre, which is a not-for-profit organization that provides computer training and administrative skills to both men and women, allowing them to enter or re-enter the work force. 2% of all sales from the evening were also donated by Holt Renfrew to the Rainbow Skills Development Centre.

At the inaugural Sisters-in-Law event, the women business attorneys of BrazeauSeller.LLP saluted the nominees for the 2005 Businesswoman of the Year award, sponsored by the Ottawa Women’s Business Network and the Ottawa Citizen.

At a gala reception held at the Ottawa Congress Centre on Tuesday March 28, 2006, Sisters in Law presented each attendee with a “Think Pink” bracelet in support of the Ontario Chapter of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, whose mission is to create a future without breast cancer.

Along with the band, each attendee had a ticket number to win one of six unique, custom designed “Bracelets of Hope,” consisting of rose quartz, pink freshwater pearls, pink Swarovski crystals, and a sterling silver heart toggle and awareness ribbon. These individual hand-made bracelets were designed by WendyRachel Jewelery.
