In addition to his role as a partner at BrazeauSeller.LLP, Ron Prehogan is President of Equitas Consultants Inc., a family business consulting firm.

Ron’s legal practice is devoted to handling commercial transactions of every nature, including mergers, acquisitions and sales of businesses and properties, and debt and equity financing transactions. In his early professional years, Ron worked with numerous public company and institutional clients both in Ottawa and in Toronto at a prominent Bay Street law firm. However, for most of his career, his focus has been on entrepreneurs and family business clients.

Ron’s professional approach is to look beyond the transaction and concentrate on the client. He has evolved over the years, growing from legal technician to legal advisor to legal/business advisor sitting on client boards. As Ron’s practice grew, he recognized the need for a service that was not out there — independent succession planning advice. There were lawyers who did wills and estate plans, and others who provided succession planning advice that was usually tied to a product. Yet there was seemingly no one who provided succession planning services of a purely independent nature. This led Ron and the Partners in BrazeauSeller.LLP to create Equitas, where he devotes a significant portion of his time in addition to carrying on his law practice.

Throughout his career, Ron has lived by the motto “you make a living by what you get, you make a life by what you give” (to paraphrase from Sir Winston Churchill). For more than 20 years, he has volunteered significant time to Jewish community affairs in Ottawa, Canada and North America, holding positions as chair of the Jewish Federation of Ottawa, chair of the Canadian Council of Jewish Community Centres and chair of the Ottawa Jewish Community Centre. Currently, Ron is the Vice-Chair of the Queensway-Carleton Hospital Foundation and he sits on the board of the Canadian Jewish Congress, combining his passions for volunteerism, governance and making a difference.

Ron is married to his childhood sweetheart, Avalee, and is the proud father of dentist Harris and veterinarian Dara.
